These following poems are for those who every day put their lives on the lines. Be they Firefighters, Law Enforcement, even something as unknown as a Security Guard that makes sure all is safe and well. These few following poems are for those two legged, four legged, alone or with back up. For those who rise every morning and every night to keep a small town or a whole country safe... These poems are for you.I do ask as you read these poems.. There is  one simple thing i would ask of my readers.... next time you know you did a "no no" be it a stop light or sign.. or anything.. or even if you just see a officer of firefighter.. you may not think much of it but something as two simple words.. "Thank You" go further then you might ever think. So when you see one of those that work so hard to keep us safe.. say "Thank You" it means much more then you can ever know.

Judgment Day for a Police Officer
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
Can't always be a Saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my work was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep,
I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the Throne
Where the Saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.

For Andrew
I didn't get to say goodbye you're gone without a reason why I've loved you and then you weren't there I didn't get a chance to say how much I cared I can't even remember the tears that I cried All I really wanted was to tell you Goodbye When I last saw you I felt I wouldn't see you again There was a distance between us that I couldn't explain You wouldn't look at me but I could see the tears in your eyes if you knew then you should have told me
Then I could have said Goodbye
So many words left unspoken so many hearts left so broken My love for you is forever and that will never die We'll be together always our souls are one with God Eternally and Always,I'll never have to say:
Goodbye

To give my all
I am a deputy in a canine crew,I've been trained to see it through,
When dangers near my ears perk up,they taught me that as a little pup.
I'm often there to protect your rights,my presence sometimes hinders fights.
I never attack with thoughts to kill, when subduing one, my job I fill.
I never worry a single thought,as to how I'll fare at a certain spot,
The love I have for a handler's care,is all I need each day to fare.
And if someday my luck turns bad,I'll relish all the joys I've had,
To be with men who stand for good,in a special kind of brotherhood.
The story's end by now you know of how I tried for a better show,
I did my best though I did fall, when I was called to give my all.

Once a officer I knew told me that even Police Officer's have a special Prayer. In his memory, as he shared it with me, I now share it with you. There are officers who know this prayer well, if only I could find the original poet, I'd give my thanks.

Policeman's Prayer
When I start my tour of duty God,wherever crime may be,
as I walk the darkened streets alone, let me be close to thee.
Please give me understanding with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgment in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience let each man have his say.
Lord if some dark and dreary night,I must give my life,
Lord, with your everlasting love protect my family, my children and my wife.

For Those Left Behind
We listened as the "Man" spoke of a war so very far away, Where sorrow, tyranny, and tears gave children no love or time to play.
On that day so long ago, Our sons, daughters ,and loved ones,
Said Good-Bye, and left to follow the sound of the guns.
Those who remember and still can hear,Horrid words for those held so dear; For those who ran much worse in store,For a coward we could not adore. Those that went and those returned,For Liberty they fought, only by us all to be burned.Where are they now those we hollered and screamed such things?Lost forever as Our Freedom Rings.Let us not forget them not a single one,
Along the Great Wall 21 shall sound the guns.

Last Words
Your Last words to us as you boarded that plane
"When I am gone, release me let me go. I have so many things to see and
do, you mustn't tie yourself to me with tears, be happy we shared a so
many, years.I gave you my love, you can only guess, how much you gave me.
in happiness,I thank you for the love you each have shown,But now it's time I traveled on alone, so grieve for me awhile if grieve
you must, then let your grief be comforted by a little trust
It's only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories of us deep
within your heart,I won't be far away for life goes on, so if you need
call, and I will come, and if you listen with your heart you'll hear, all of my love around you soft and clear. and then, when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and whisper:
"Welcome Home"
